We should not accept Shivaji as a Gurjar. The clan of Shivaji i.e. Bhonsle relates themselves to Sisodia Rajputs. This can be confirmed by any Maratha historian. I have found a tendency among our Gurjar brothers to relate every famous person to our community without any substantial evidence. WE SHOULD CALL ONLY THOSE PERSONS GURJARS, WHO THEMSELVES FEEL PROUD TO CALL THEMSELVES GURJARS. Rgds // Vikram Singh (Gurjar)

I am toattaly agreed with Vikram bhai, people should feel pride of being Gurjar. We need not to find who is Gurjar or who isn't. We have a brave and brilliant past though historians have not done justice with us, therefore we have to dig the things. But anyhow we are capable and we can make the history repeats itsself.

i agree that bainsla is called in maharastra as bhonsle . but there is one more thing that according to book "A SHORT HISTORY OF THE GURJARS" by author 'Rana Alihasan Chauhan' that in year 1297, when allaudin khilgi attacked on Gurjar- Fort RANTHAMBOR and all the peoples are killed by him, some were run away from Ranthambor in which two prince (Rajkumars) of rajpariwar , one of them run to Nepal & the present family of king of Nepal is in his generation(vanshaj), second one run to maharastra and the Shivaji was born in his future generation(pidhi).
I do agree with this that some of us relate our community with the great personalities but there is a reason behind this as we are not having a specific/authentic history. Because history was written after a long time where history writer wrote these things according to the present status of gurjar s at that time. Like after visiting from different ruling provinces they found that all these had much more similarities and some of them was ruling that time also. But Beside of this ,IT is confirm that Army chief of Shivaji was a Gurjar...
Friends the history of our community has not been brought to the limelight.do'nt you feel that the history we know today is manipulated by the policymakers nd researchers. If more intellectuals will get into this research we definitely would come to know we are a royal commune.i hope one day a clear picture of our history will appear before us.
rajaputras have shamelessly claimed all gurjara glory so far..dont blame marathas or history records for that.
Chatrapati Shivaji was of sissodia/gehlot descent which are undoubtedly of gurjar origin especially since rajputana was not formed till late 1800's by the british and prior to that the entire region was called gujarata i.e. land ruled/protected by gurjars..all the kings and kshatriyas of gujarata/rajasthan till late 1200's were gurjars...other sprung up only after their fall opportunistically!
according high court Jujment shiva ji is Gujjar and wikipedia and otherlocal site they are rajput
