The Gurjars were never "converted" to Rajputs. Conversion is a different thing....They joined the Rajput Sangh.
Mohammad Ghori or Ghiyasuddin Gazni started his invasion to india in 1175. He captured Multan in 1176.
In 1178 AD Mohd Ghori invaded Gujrat and was well defeated and hurled back by Gurjseshwar BheemDev Solanki of Gujrat.
It was the same year when PrithviRaj Chauhan ascended the throne of Ajmer and Delhi.
Chandel Raja Paramardideva had always been hostile to Chauhans since the time of Gurjar-Pratihars.
PrithviRaj Chauhan defeated him by 1182 AD.
Till that time the Indian Kings were well aware of the forthcoming danger of Ghori.
Gurjeshwar Bheemdev Solanki collected all the kshatriya rulers under an association named Gurjar mandal.
Ghori occupied Punjab in 1186 AD.
Chauhans became the supreme lords by this time i.e. 1187-88 AD
BheemDev-2 and Prithvi were also related to each other by blood.
So BheemDev asked Prithvi to lead this group.
Prtihvi fought against Ghori in tarain (1191 AD).
Khokhars, Dhamas, Bhadanas, Solankis, Pratihars and Rawats took part. Gahedwals, Guhilots, Chandels, Yadavas and Rathores were neutral .
Under the command of Khande Rao Dhama
(Brother of Prithvi's First wife) The combined forces of Gurjars and Khokhars defeated Mulims and chased them till the Boarder.
Ghori was badly wounded and taken away from battlefield by his horseman. He was never captured by Prithvi as said in PrithiRaj Vijay and PrithviRaj Raso)
After one year (1192 AD) Ghori returned with double forces.
By this time Khokhars departed from Gurjars and a strange rivalry started between Solanki and Chauhans. This led to the defeat of single forces of Prithvi. Dhamas were kept and beheaded in the firts day of Tarain war. After that Prithvi was also slaughtered by one of the slaves of Ghori named Qtab-ud-din-Aibak. This slave later got the seat of delhi as reward
Note :Rai of Pithora (Prithvi) was never taken to Ghazni.
Hammir Singh Chauhan of Ajmer, Brother of Prithvi, Who took the crown of gurjeshwar after Prithvi was also defeated in 1195 AD
Kannauj (1193 AD), Ajmer (1195), Ayudhya, Bihar (1194), Gwalior (1196), Anhilwada (1197), Chandella (1201 AD) were also captured by muslims.
The Gurjar Mandal finished after that. It apeared in history with a new name only after 1400 AD. The hindu warriors were firts noticed and addressed as "Rajputs" by 'Aamir Timur' of Lang in 1398 AD.
Note :Rajput, does not mean RajPutra or Son of King.
Rajput meant Rajya-Putra or son of the kingdom, who were organised to get back their kingdoms from the invaders.
The Rajput Sangh was formed to fight out the muslim invaders somewhere during 13th century (in Marwar region).
It was formed by famous Gurjar Clans i.e. Pratihars, Parmars, Chalukyas, Chauhans, Guhilots, Gehadwals, Chandelas, Tomars, Chawdas, Dhamas etc. alongwith Yadavas of Jaisalmer and DevaGiri plus a few selected warrior Jat Tribes like Dahiya and Khokhars.
