The Bagdi or Wagdi are a people of India who are one of the Bhil tribes. They historically spoke the Wagdi language however today the argest number of Bagdi speak Hindi with others speaking such languages as Malvi and Marwari. Traditionally the Bagdi were hunters and gatherers. However today they have become farmers and laborers. There is another unrelated group the Bagdi (caste) who live in West Bengal and Bangladesh. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagdi

The Bagdi or Wagdi are a people of India who are one of the Bhil tribes. They historically spoke the Wagdi language however today the argest number of Bagdi speak Hindi with others speaking such languages as Malvi and Marwari. The Bagar region was and is dominated by the Bhils and the Bhils from the region must be called Bahdi Bhils. Haldi Bhati is also falles in this area and Bhils played a very importany role in the battle of Rana Pratap against Akbar. If you see another variation like Bagar or Bagari on Internet you will find a famous Marwari Business familly of Piramal who are moved and settled in Bagad village founded by Nagara Pathans ( Must be converted Gujjar Muslims of Nagara Gotra). There is a difference between the Gujarati and Gujjars and same is true for Varajjara ( Bajjar or bagdi or Bagree) Gujjar and others. Similary there is separate caste of Koli but there is a Gujjar Gotra of Kohli also exists and to the best of my knowledge Dahima and Pundirs are the branch of this Kohli Gotra of Gujjara. Gujjars Kohlis must be the rulers of the region inhabited by the Koli tribe. This can be otherway true as well. The Gujjars Kohli must have founded the Kol region and the other people than Gujjars inhabiting there must have been called as Koli. Presently I could not come across any historical evidence that Gujjar Kohlis have founded the Kol region so till that time I shall assume that Gujjars ruling the Kol region on behalf of either Gujjar Kushana Empire or Gujjar Pratihar Empire were called the Gujjar Kohlis.

hello ap bhai sahab i want to know about the baanar gotra of gurjars.i have heared that this clan is blong to chandravansh they are the direct decendents of sugriv. Just by similarity of name banar Gotra can not fall in to catagory of race Sugreev belonged. I have given the example of Baniya gotra which was a place of historical Importance during Gujjar Empire and the Gujjar Rulers of that area were called Baniya Gujjars. Vanar was different race and if Baanar Gujjars belomg to that race they would have been of different look today than Gujjars who stand at the top of the order in Nasal Index survey to be of Aryan race. This kind of writings only creat confusions and will not lead to any result until and unless you provide some historical evidence.

Please add "chhuwan" and "Wanne" as well in the list of Gotras. Thanks, Bheem Singh Chhuwan is variation of Chauhan only. Chauhan is a name written by British historians and actual name of the clan is Chaman or Chawan ( in pronunciation it is called and Chuwanh). The origin of their name is from Gujjar Kushan Empire and must be the rulers of Chaman which is also a place in NWFP area of present day Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The origin of Gujjar Pratihar Gotra must be from Parthia+Raja or Parthiara, since Parthia was under control of Gujjars ( written and Yuechi or Yuezhi in chinese leterature) Kasana ( Written as Guishang in chinese literature) Empire the Gujjar rulers of Pratiha were called Gujjar Parthiaraja or Pratihars. Later this clan must have ruled in Potohar area in present day Pakistan and named it as Potohar. Most of the Gujjar Gotras are named after the place they have ruled during Gujjar Kushana and Gujjar Pratihar Empire. Later many of the places are named after these Gujjar Gotras. For example, the name of the village of Gujjar Brave Girl Rukhsana from Kashmir is Kalsian. Kalsian is also a Gotra among Gujjars which is named after Khalchian in Central Asia where many historical evidences of Gujjar Kushan rule have been found. There is another village in punjab named after this celebrated Gotra of Gujjars.
