More on Gujjar Population in India • Gujjars in Maharashtra • Landhora Gujjar • Gujjars in Haryana • Gujjars in Rajasthan • Gujjars in Madhya Pradesh
Gujjar population of India is near about 5.3 crores approximately. In India, Gujjar populations are found mainly in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, western Uttar Pradesh, northern Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra. The semi-nomadic Gujjar groups are found in the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and north-western Uttar Pradesh. The name for the state of Gujarat has derived from `Gurjar`. The Gurjars were classified as a Scheduled Tribe in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, and as Other Backward Class in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Western Uttar Pradesh is totally dominated by Gurjars. Before the year 1857, western Uttar Pradesh was called Mini Gujarat due to domination of Gurjars as this region was ruled by them. The total population of Gurjars in Haryana is roughly 10 lakh, which is forming slightly less than the overall 5 per cent of the total population. Gujjars in Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal are found both in Himalayan foothills and on the plains in the Rohilkhand area. Groups camp in the forests of Dehradun and Saharanpur district in winter from November to March. They migrate with herds of buffalo and cattle to the Himalayan summer pastures in Shimla district (Himachal Pradesh) or Tehri Garwhal & Uttarkashi, (Uttaranchal) for the months of April to October.
The main gotras of Gurjars found in the Faridabad district of Haryana include Bhadana (14 villages), Nagar (20 villages), Bisla (10 villages) and Poswal (1 village). In Jammu and Kashmir, the concentration of Gurjars is observed in the districts of Rajouri and Poonch, followed by, Anantnag, Udhampur and Doda districts. It is believed that Gurjars migrated to Jammu and Kashmir from Gujarat. There are many Gurjar villages in the state of Punjab and most of these Gurjars are Sikhs. The last names of the Punjabi Gurjars include Kasana, Khepar, Kataria, Chaudhary, Bjarh, Chauhan, Bhumbla, Chandpuri, Chechi, Meelu, Hans, and others. In Uttar Pradesh, the Gurjar populations are mainly found in the western UP region that is Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Moradabad, Bijnor, Ghaziabad, Noida, Bulandshahar and Bareilly. To a fewer extent, they are also found in Rampur, Agra and Bundelkhand.
According to some records, population of Gujjar community is relatively high in the central region of India.

Dear Jatpower,
1. It would be great, had you been registered with a harmonic ID name. 2. Please explain your concerns with the population of Gujjars in India. 3. Please cite reference for the authenticity of the information provided. 4. The population of Gujjars (hindus only) is well above 2 crores (you may please refer to various discussions already present on this board. 5. In Haryana, there are more than 3.5 lakh Gujjars in Gurgaon and faridabad districts only, let alone all other areas. In my findings, I got to know that there are around 12-14 Lakh of Gujjars in Haryana. 5-6 Lakh of them are in Delhi. 32 Lakhs in Rajasthan (some people claim 50 lakhs). In Up, there are more than 58 lakh Gujjars. In MP, Gujjars are around 35 to 40 lakhs. Punjab (8-9 lakhs), Gujarat (7 Lakhs), Maharashtra (7 Lakhs), Karnataka and other states also have a sizeable gujjar population.
In the end, You are requested to get your facts correct. I had been in touch with many of the Jat scholars. Ravi chaudhary (jatland.org) was also among the other Jat Intellectuals who contributed a lot of information to my research.
Thanks for joining, Please keep writing and try to be good so that the internal harmony between the most ancient brotherly and interconnected communities may be preserved.
Regards Ashok Harsana

Achhi baat hai, lekin mujhe bahot sare Jaat mile hain aaj tak jo bahot hi achhe aur seedhe insan hai, dosti ke liye jaan dene wale, Isliye meri soch ab sari communities ko leke yehi hai ki " har caste me har tarah ke log mil jate hain". You seem to be quite young to experience that in life. No worries you'll get to learn many things with your age.
Keep writing.

See I am a jaat of Bihar from a dangi clan and I want to say you that the population of gurjar is negligible in areas of bihar, jharkhand, west Bengal & purvanchal but if u see there is a small population of jaat in these areas. Also u have to see that majority of India's population resides in these areas(purvanchal, Bihar, jharkhand, Chattisgarh & bengal) but alas the Congress government has only focussed in northern areas surrounding Punjab & delhi.also not deviating from the topic we have to see that there is no gurjars in Gujarat and in Maharashtra the population of gurjar is very small mainly dode gurjars so we can't say that gurjars exceeds more than 2.5 crore at large i.e. why it is said that gurjars are 1/4th of jaat population also you have to note that we jaat are 1/4th of ahir/yadav population as you know that ahirs are 14% of haryana population, 10% of up & mp & GUJARAT population,14% of bihar population and 7% of jharkhand & Chattisgarh. So the largest population in India castewise in of ahir/yadav & i.e. why mulayam & lalu yadav controls state like up & Bihar where 30% of India's population resides whereas we jaat have leaders like Ajit Singh & leaders from inld who don't even control 10% of India's population. So I request you to please stop this caste war as it creates only division & I want to remind you that see what happened in UP, Bihar & haryana with so called caste leaders like RJD, SP, BSP &INLD.
