www.jagran.com/news/sports-no-godfather-no-famly-hierarchy-9981298.html

Meerut’s ‘Bhuvi’ fills out India’s pace shoesSumit Adhana runs a printing press in Delhi. On Tuesday evening, a co-worker — who had his eye on the India-Pakistan game on the telly — excitedly told Adhana that India had unearthed a fantastic young pacer by the name of Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Adhana could not believe his ears. On the telly, the debutant dazzled not just the Pakistanis with his away swing and his sharp in-cutters, the Indians (both on the field and the ones in the stand) could barely believe their eyes. Nor could Adhana, who immediately called up his wife Rekha and said: “Our Bhuvi has made it.” Adhana is Bhuvneshwar’s brother-in-law, married to his only sister, Rekha. The family, of course, is ecstatic. India may not have won, but as Adhana’s friend said, the team truly had unearthed someone quite special. At one point, his figures read 2-0-3-3. “The phone hasn’t stopped ringing since,” says Rekha. “This is a great day.” It was. Not just for the Adhanas, but the entire family back in Meerut, who opened their doors for the entire neighbourhood to drop in on Tuesday night. Bhuvneshwar’s father, Kiran Pal Singh, is a retired sub-inspector with the Uttar Pradesh police. He had little time for his son’s cricket in the early days. Indresh, his mother, too knew little about the game when he first showed interest in it. So Rekha, little Bhuvi’s older sister, filled in for them and others too. She was his first coach, mentor and role model. “I used to take him to the cricket stadium many kilometres away from home and pick him up when practice finished. When he needed any cricket equipment, I would go buy it for him,” says Rekha. “I understood very early that cricket was his life. Which is why I told all his class teachers to not put much academic pressure on him. I knew that he would make it big someday.” That was today. www.indianexpress.com/news/meerut-s--bhuvi--fills-out-india-s-pace-shoes/1050240

Team India's new hopeAt a time when the likes of Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma were looking like stumbling veterans well past their prime and fans of Indian cricket were praying for one decent medium pacer, came Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Kumar had already impressed everyone in the T-20 matches against Pakistan earlier this month but when he bowled Pakistan opener Mohammad Hafeez off the first delivery of the innings -and his One Day career -on Sunday, we knew that our prayers had been answered. While India lost the match by six wickets, this 22-year-old from Kanpur emerged the clear winner. The medium pacer also became the first Indian bowler to take a wicket with the very first ball of his ODI career. The right hand bowler, whose dream is to play alongside Sachin Tendulkar in Tests one day, has had an impressive first class career too with 149 wickets in 46 matches. Kumar's coach Sanjay Rastogi says, “Credit should go to Bhuvaneshwar's sister, who brought him to me when he was very young.” “All debut matches of Bhuvaneshwar were good. Even in his Under-13, 15, 17 and 19 debut matches, he had done exceedingly well,” he adds. Kumar's sister, Rekha Adhana says, “He should continue to work hard and achieve more for the country. He should dedicate his first ODI debut wicket to his own hard work.” And it seems that the bowler agrees with his sister. Speaking briefly after the match, Kumar said, “I am not dedicating the wicket to anyone but myself.” Bhuvneshwar's father, Kiran Pal Singh is a Sub Inspector of Police and mother Indresh is a house wife. While the bowler has been exposed to IPL and its late-night soirees, his family says that he is not into parties. They are also sure that the latest prodigy of Indian cricket will not become too proud of his achievements. Well, as long as the wickets keep on tumbling, we don't mind. www.deccanchronicle.com/130101/sports-cricket/article/team-indias-new-hope
