Hi Ashok, Here I would like to correct you. Except Samthar none of these states were princely states. Princely states was the name given to the all kind of vassals of British Empire.
Behsuma and Gohra were the Subas ( Regional Powers) of Parikshat Garh state of Gujjars Nagaras. The Gujjar fort at Parikshat Garh was dismantled in 1857, the first war of Independence. The Chaprana and Dhalia Gujjars of Panchli, the village of the Great freedom fighter Dhan Singh one of the Generals of the state having more than 1000 cavaliers. 1857 revolt is not correctly recorded ( or may be the correct version is still kept under confidential and classified information).
Similarly the the Powers of Landhora state were also reduced sustantially during the British regime alongwith the states of Holkars since both of the rulers were friendly and probabaly the Britishers did not find this firendship good for their own Empire.

In the recently published book FORTS AND FUTURE , the GURJAR FORT of SAMTHAR is told as The Samthar fort, “is one of the more ambitious fortifications built in the 17th Century.” Samthar was a powerful Gujjar kingdom when the Moghul Empire was disintegrating and the Marathas were gaining ground in Central India. It also flaunts pictures of intricate rock carvings from the Ajaigarh fort. This state belonged to the Gurjar of KASANA gotra and is situated to the north west of JHANSI. The present successor is Ranjeet Singh and he is EX UP home Minister and Member of UP Congress Committee. Mr. A.P. Singh is right.Smithar was the only princely state accepted by British because in 1857 the prince was too young so the state not participated in war but state also no sided to British. Mr. Vij is wrong as he stated Smithar rulers as Kasana. They are Khatana whose pedigree goes to the ancient ruler Raja Kaidar Rai of Present Afganistan's border area. This family was always a proud symbol for Gujjars because his family refuses the marriage propodal of Mughal King Shah Jehan. In result they face the war and kileed nearly sixty eight thousand soldiers of Mughal force but defeated. After getting defeated they move to hansi from Pawaian(now shahjehan pur or Shahjehan Abad, Saharanpur. I not know much about the presnt of state Timli Dehradun. Anyhow states are states for us to proud even they were not accepted as princely states by British. Mr. Ashok please wrie how many sates were before partition.
