This post need a separate thread as during slavery period of country Bari-Gujjar was interpreted as bada Gujjar.
I would like to make it clear before proceeding further.
1. Anup Rai was not in the service of Mughals. He was hired only for that particular hunt. It is written in the Mughal history as the courtier of Jahangir to save some respect for Mughal servants who actually fled and Anup rai killed the lion.
2. Obviously Khurram ( later named Jahangir) did not kill the lion but as per the Mughal tradition history has to be written about the bravery of the Mughal prices.
3. Anup Rai was given Anup Shar in Bulandshar and his descendents are called Rajput today. Some of his descendents were killed and expelled later when they refused to offer their females to Mughal harams as per tradition of Mughal rule. These expelled barigujars were called Sikarwars later.
See the following details at page 60 in the following book. You will not find reference of Barigujjar gotra among Gujjars before the Mughal rule as it was named by Mughals only.

In 1610 when Jahngir was near Bari in Agra suba, one of his courtier Anup Rai came across a across a half-devoured cow. Suddenly a lion came out of the thicket. It was promptly surrounded and the emperor was informed. jahangir, Khurram and others rushed to the spot. jahngir set his musket on the stand and fored twice but missed as os not uncommon when it comes to judging the elevation of the bullet when firing from a height as Jahangir was doing. In the event, the lion charged, Jahangir,s retuniue bolted, and according to him, some even trampled him in their flight! Anup rai saved Jahangir;s life by battling the lion almost with the bare hands, while Prince Khurram struck the animal with a sword. At the end of it the lion was dispatched and Emperor was saved. In the recognition of his valour jahangir gave anup rai the title of Ani rau Singhdalan meaning Commander of troops, lion Crusher ( Thackson 1999:117-18)
