HI ASHOK
i have read some comments about from jatts which really hurt me. coz they mentioned some very strange comments about our community, i request you to plz clear these comment on full research basis. thanks and regards from Ismail
zee_cheema : 2005/11/6 9:48 Gujjars have had a bad history with Jatts and what Cheema saab has said is correct in terms of their lifestyle and living habits. Punjabi Gujjars hold a grudge against jatts many of times fights have taken place in pinds around where i live luckily in opur pind we have gujjars but they are calm because they are vastly out-numbered by us. Not only that i have never heard a story around my pind of a Gujjar having a battle and getting away with that. They have fought but end result has always been in favour of the jatts. PS - I'm not saying that gujjars are bad people at all, before some accuses me of that, its what i can tell you from my personal experience.
gujranwale_da_jatt : 2005/11/6 9:51 BWJ ! Most gujjars I know use chaudahry or singh or kumar as their lastnames, so their clannames are not well known. However, kohli, chokar, sardana, chaman are a few I know about.
Quote:
any idea about their military history with the Mughals, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, or the British? Could you name some common Gujjar clans?
Gujjars of Gujrat (West Punjab) were known to have ruled considerable tract in chaj doab during akbar's era. They constantly clashed with Warrach Jatts who were also numerous in Chaj doab and were granted jagirs by akbar. ( I read this in some book, dont remember which one was it, anyways it was either by Griffin or Ibbeston)
I have never heard or read of any Gujjar tribe which might have reached high ranks or received jagirs under british, ranjit singh sandhu or mughals. Thats one reason we dont find gujars with good land holdings in the plains. However, many texts mention that Jatts and Gujjars were a constant trouble during Babar's era as highway looters and robbers.
Here are some quotes on gujjar from Rose's compilation
"The gujar is stalwart fellow, of precisely the same physical type as Jat"
"He is lazy to a degree, and a wretched cultivator; while his fondeness for cattle extends to those of other people"
"The difference between a Gujar and a Rajput cattle-theif was onece explained to me thus by a Jat: ' The rajput will steal your buffalo, but he will not send his father to say he knows where it is and will get it back for Rs 20 and then keep the Rs 20 and the bufallo too'"

Sae akhya jay Cheema Saab. This is a common problem in villages shared by jatts and gujjars. Gujjars do hold grudge against Jatts. One reason is they are jealous of Jatt landholdings. Another one being they are as quarellsome as Jatts.
Ashok bahi i copy these comments from a site belog to Jatts, I will be really thankful to you if you provide me some detail information about all these. From Ismail Chechi
