Hi Guys, Delhi or Dillie "The Heart of India" was founded by Tanwars in 736 AD. Thats why Delhi is often called Dilli Tanwaro ki or Dilli Gujaron ki. After 1192 AD they were dethroned by Turks. Since then The Gurjars of Delhi Have been fighting with the Arabians, Moguls and Britishers one after the other. Today They are scattered all around Delhi. Lets see the spread of Gurjars in and around Delhi The Areas populated by Gurjars are shown in pink color. www.freewebtown.com/ashokharsana/Gujarsdelhi.JPG[/img]

Hi Ashok, Delhi was founded by Gujjar Tanwars (Tuars,Toors, Tomar) in 736AD. The earliest reference Of Gujjar Tanwars is found in an inscription at Pehpowa, ancient Prithudaka, in Karnal district of present day Haryana of the reign of Gujjar Pratihar king MahendraPal I. It states that their was a king Juala of the Gujjar Tanwar dynasty who obrained prosperity by looking after the affairs of Gujjar king. The Gujjar Chauhan king Guaka II of Sakambri, the Son of Gujjar Chauhan king Chandan killed Gujjar Tanwar king Rudrena in the battle. At that time both the Gujjar tanwars and the Gujjar Chauhans were the Samants of Gujjar Pratihars. The foundation of the religious buildings at Pushkar were laid by the wife of Gujjar Chauhan king Chandan at that point of time.
The Son and successor of Guaka was Vakpatiraja I who ruled in the first quarter of tenth century and he stated to have harrased TantraPal who was on his way to Anant Gochara (seems to be country near Sikar) with a message of his overlord, the Gujjar Pratihars of kannaj. This statement makes it clear that at this point of the Gujjar Chauhans acquired enough power to defy the authority of Gujjar Pratihars the overlords of all kings of india. Gujjar Chauhan VakpatiRaj built a Shiva temple at Pushkar. He had three sons Simharaja, Vatsraja and Lakshmana. Laksman founded a kingdom at Naddulla, in southren Marwar where his sucessors ruled for several centuries.Simhraja atscended the throne after Vakpati raja. He defeated the Gujjar Tomar general named Salvan and put in to prison a number of Gujjar Tanwars princes. In order to liberate them, the Gujjar Pratihar king of Kannauj the Devpal came to the house of Gujjar Chauhan at Sakambri in person. Iskla Matlab ye ki Gujjaron ki Panchayat ne faisla kar ke Delhi Wapas Gujjar Tanwars ko Dilwa dee. Subsequently the Simraja who ruled in the third quarter of third century freed his territories from the suzerainty of the Gujjar Pratihars who had about the time lost their imperial position. He is the first among the Gujjar Chahaman kings to assume the title of Maharajadhiraj. He granted a number of villages to the temple of Harshnath, which was constructed in AD 956 and lies near the village of harshnath about seven miles of Sikar. The Gujjar Tanwars continued to rule Haryan till the middle of twelfth century when they were overthrown by Gujjar Chauhan king Vishaladev ( The famous Beesal Dev). King Beesal Dev was the real brother of Mandalji, the grandfarher of God DevNarayan. Mandalji built a big water tank ant Mandalgarh near Bhilwara, which is still there.
PrthiviRaj Chauhan was born in this branch of Gujjar Chauhans with Gujjar Tanwar mother, a princes of Delhi and thus became the king of Delhi since his maternal grandfather Anangpal, the Gujjar Tanwar king of Delhi had no son and adopted his grandson Prithviraj Chauhan.

There is one more mistake. The Gujjar Chauhan king Simraja who ruled in the third quarter of tenth century (not third century which is written by mistake) freed his territories from the suzerainty of the Gujjar Pratihars who had about the time lost their imperial position. Regards. AP Singh

Hi Ashok, I am responding to thread started by you in allempire.com. See the following. Hi Historians, The word rajput was used for number petty small rulers,( irrespective of ther origin,) of India who accepted Naukri as military labour ( service) in the court of Mughals from 1450-1850. See D. H. A. KOLFF, Naukar, Rajput and Sepoy. The ethnohistory of the military labour market in Hindustan, 1450-1850 Hence Rajputs should not be confused with the Imperial Gurjars.

Hello AP Singh Ji,
Everyone in Haryana and Delhi Know that meos are actually Muslim Gujjars, But Its an amazing fact that they are Tanwars originally.
Meos
A Muslim Gujjar community living in southern Haryana and north eastern Rajasthan known for its admixture of Hindu and Islamic customs, practices and beliefs. They are mostly illiterate, Only one in ten Meos is able to properly read and write. The Meos have two identities, both of which they are equally proud of. On the one hand, they claim to be Muslims, tracing their conversion to various Sufi saints who began settling in their territory from the eleventh century onwards, and whose shrines or 'dargahs' today dot the entire Mewati countryside. On the other hand, they also claim to be Gurjars, and believe that they are direct descendants of Krishna and Rama. These Hindu deities are respectfully referred to by the Meos as 'dada' or grandfather'.
Almost every Meo village has a mosque, but in many places Meos also worship at Hindu temples. Many Rajasthani Meos still retain mixed Hindu-Muslim names. Names such as Ram Khan or Shankar Khan are not unusual in the Meo tracts in Alwar. The Muslim community of Meos is highly Hinduised. They celebrate Diwali and Holi as they celebrate Ids. They do not marry within ones Gotras like Hindus of the North though Islam permits marriage with cousins. Solemnization of marriage among Meos is not complete without both nikah as in Islam and circling of fire as among Hindus. People with double identities, Meos believe that they are direct descendants of Krishna and Rama.

Ashok Harsana

Hi Ashok, This Digvijay has done a good job for us. I prefer to systemaically answer all the queries which we can only expect from a non Gujjar. That how we can prepare a FAQ ( Frequently Asked Questions) about Gujjars. So give this link to as many friends as you can do for. This will provide vital information to many people who unaware of Gujjar History. www.allempires.com/forum/forum_topics.asp?FID=35Thread: Royal Gurjars Started by: Ashok Harshana
