Dear Vipin ji, The nomenclature of Hindu Gotras is very complex. But in Gujjars, it is not difficult to ascertain the origin of a gotra because of the well knit society and endogamy. The two systems prevalent in Gujjars and Jaats for Gotras are: 1. Vat or Wat (literally meaning 'Son of'): Ambawat etc. and 2. Wal or Val (meaning 'Resident of'): Dharwal etc.
In this fashion it can be easily deduced that your gotra was named after the place you originally belonged to. Rajasthan, as a matter of fact, is the origin of most of Gotras of Gujjars. Though it is not easy to find the exact original place of your Gotra's origin yet there are many places resembling with the names of Gujjars' Gotras which may help you in ascertaining your origin. Regards Ashok

Does anyone know Phambra gujjar gotra and its origin? Are there hindu phambra gujjars? I have come across muslim phambras but never a hindu? Are there hindu Phambras? Hello Dear, This surname is more accurately called "Bhamra" in mainland indian gujjars and is also known as Bhumla or Bhumbla, Bumra, Bumla etc. The origin is not known but this was most certianly the surname of Shivaji's Family before they migrated to Maharashtra and founded the Great Maratha Empire.

Thank you for the response. Please if you will, what is evidence to support this assertion that Phambra, bhamra, bumla are the same gotra?
