Hello All
I have gone through many of the Jat history books, Most of them say that gurjars were a Jat Branch which got separated later.
Jats and gujjars have many common surnames but still many of them are totally different. The Skull and nasal Index of Gurjars prove that they are a different race from Jats and more leptoherrine.
Jat and Gurjar history is really very consfusing, and a very sensitive point.
To read it Please follow Rule no."1":-You just cant relate two things or clans by their similar names. Its a real big mistake which i also did during last two years and wasted my time researching over it....I tried to relate Uzbekistans city Gujar and Africa's famous city Gujare to Gurjars but failed at every step and had to admit that similar names doesnt always mean one and same thing. Similarly you cant relate yuchees and aztes to jats, Kushans to kaswans and Parthia to pratihars etc.
1. I told you about the origin of Badgujjars. Pls refer to my post explaining the origin of Badgujars and their relation with jats............
2. You are not right when you say that the word "Gujjar" was derived after Gujrat. Its exactly the oppsite case. Gurjars gave their name to Gujrat and 100 other places like Gurzni in Chehe-nya (Cheche is the biggest Gujar surnmae), Gurziya or Gurjistan (Modern Georgia). Please Tell me if they were a Jat branch then why did they named so many places after their "Newlyformed clan name" ?
3. The word Gurjar is a pure saskrit word which means
"Gur means shatru " Jar means "sanhar ". You can refer to any sanskrit dictionery like kalpdrum you will find the word with its meaning. Gujjar or Gujar is a later corruption of it. You can also find the word Gujar in KrishanLeela where he stayed at a gujjar's house for a few days during his way to Dwarika. You can also read about his SENA where there was a cavlary Force called Gurjara sena which was the most famous and brave force of his sena, thats why his sena was called Gurjar-sena and his kingdom at Dwarika was called Gurjara-Rashtra (later called Gujaratta) Please refer to any sourcebook about Gujarat's history.
4. Lets come to Yuchees :
First of all Kushan is a very well known gujar surname and you can find millions of Kushan Gujars residing in the area where kushan Kings ruled for a long time. (The Jat gotra kaswan is far from Kushan we again follow the rule no:-"1")
(1) You tell me urself wot comes to ur mind when you call The word Gujar in Chinese Isnt it Yuchee. Can you relate Yuchee to jaats in any sense. Even the history books at the 11th 12th level say that Gurjars were derived from yuchee tribes.
Example :They were called as K-Yuchee-lo (more refined form of Yuchee) when Huenxang came to india during harsha's period (Bhinmal ruled by Chap Gujar Dynasty), In his records HuenXand called Harsha a on-Kshatriya and said that Ruler of Bhinmal is a pure Kshatriyas by varna, What does it mean ??
(2)Please read about "Records of the Great Historian", or Shiji, by a chinese writer Sima Qian. He clearly explains the lifestyle of Yuchees. He wrote that they were into anmal husbandary and loved their animals as their family. They were also involved he also said that There were five clans in the trading of jade. They were aslo called Chandravanshi and suryavanshi by other chinese historians.
(3)There were two groups in yuchees one was greater Yuchee or Ta-yuchee and the other was the smaller group which was called smaller yuchees. When Xiongnu attacked the yuchees the larger group left the field and fled to southern area called Transoxiana. It happened around 2nd century BC. Now please notice written in a a Gurjar history book "Bhartiya Sanskriti ke rakshak". It says: in 2nd century when Huns attcked the territory of Gurjars in around 2nd century BC, Most of the Gurjars had to leave the place as Huns were very strong and were in greater number than Gurjars, This larger group which was called Bir-gujars or kharis and the smaller group which stayed there and kept fighting with the Huns was Lor or lohva group. These Lors and khari groups do not intermarry due to this reason till date. Khari gujars have 750 Gotras while Lor Gujars are only 84 in gotras. Lor Gujars are still considered higher and brave as compared to kharis and kharis are often not offered Hukkas by Lors in some areas of Rajsthan and northern Gujarat. These groups are better known as lehva and kadhwa in Gujrat and maharastra. At some places Khari gujars are not considered as Gujars at all , this was the main reason that most of the gujars who belonged to this group later adapted Baniya caste and quit calling themselves as Gujars.
(4) The Lor group eneterd Indian subcontinent in two instalments. Firstly they were called Red Huns or Xionites. They poured into india and got mixed with the population.
In 5th century They were called White-huns while they were pure gujars and were actually hepthalites and not huns. They defeated the Guptas and snatched their kingdom. They easliy got merged with the population as they were Hindus by relegion. Thats why we don not find their name as huns in the later years. They actually ruled as Pratihars, tomar and chouhans....
Now notice the names of famous Hepthallite attackers:
1. Chu-Han (han was used as a distincion to a king).
2. Turhan or Torman
3. MihirGula
This is where the Surname chauhan and Tomar originated from.......
Digvijay must read it (The most asked question from him, Origin of chauhans and Tomars).
The other Gujar dynasties which were ruling earlier were chap, chechi, Nagar, Kushan and parmar. All these clans could not rise under these Lor-Gujars
5. About Pratihars:
Pratihar is also a pure sanskrit word which means "One who Guards". It was not a clan name and was never named after parthia. Few famous groups who helped Nagbhatta "Salumbare" (Offshoot of Tomars) in defeating the Islamic invaders (Under Mohd Bin Qasim) were collectively called the pratihars. There were actually two castes included in pratihars Brahmin and Gujars, The later group proved its superiority by capturing the whole north india till the end of 8th century and assumed the Imperial Gujar Title. The Brahmin-Pratihar group (well known as Podihars or parihars in Brahmins and Rajputs) could not do much after loosing jodhpur to Gujars. There was another reason for opting this name "Laxman was called Rama's Pratihar and these Gujar groups claimed desendence from Raghukul vansh. They were often called Dvij Kulin Raghukul vasnhi ksahtriya in many inscriptions.
The Name of the ruling Clan of Pratihars was Salumbare or Lumbare (still a caste under gujars, DO jats have any such surname). After it Tomars were most powerful in this group, Chouhan came on the third place. This was the reason between the Tomar-Chouhan rivalry. Bhadanas, Parmars, Nagars, Kushans and Chaps (Solanki and chawra) followed the list.
6. Prithvi Raj chouhan:
Apart from the facts which is stated earlier like:
A. Migration and settlement of chouhans
B. Their current presence as Gurjars in the areas where they originally settled.
C. Their relation with other Gurjar dynasties.
D. Formation of Gujjar mandal by PrithviRaj
E. The present generation (37th) of Prithviraj say they are gujars (Rana Ali hassan chouhan)
Take some more facts:
Its very well known that God Devnarayn chouhan was a Gurjar. His great granfather was Prithvi's cousin brother.
also Note that at his time Pratihars were ruling in and around Pushkar and were called Ranas.
Aprt from that Gola is a word and not a surname which means born to a Dasi. The Gola who took over after Prithvi was Prithvi's Dasi's son.
7. Finally :
Though we find many similarties between Jat and gujars as their physiques, face structures, culture, marital rituals and other customs are 100% same, We can easily Differentiate between Jats and Gujars today, as most of the gujars are still into animal husbandary and are milk sellers while jats are hardly there in this field. The milk business was considered very high and pure till last centuries where there was no other business and number of animals meant the net worth of any family. This occupation was opted by Gujars since the times of Krishna Ji who was a Guvala. (he was also brought by a gujar Baba Nand. Later Baba Nand was also included Among Yadavs As rule "11". When a dynasty or a caste became very very dominating all other castes and clans surrounding it joined that particular clan" I call it the Rule "11",
EX. Shivaji was a Gujar but when Bhosles got fame as Marathas, Gujar became a clan under Marathas, its still there as five royal clans. We also know form the past records that many Jat joined gujar stream and viceversa).
Every Gujar is very very much into Gujarism,
u know wot is Gujarism, It mean we love our caste very very much and consider every other caste lower than ours, we can talk about gujarism for all day and night and go to any extent to help a gujar brother we are really proud of being Gujars, We feel pride in calling ourselves GUjjArs. Thats why we gave our name to so many places, I think there are hardly any city or town named after any other Caste....
Thats the reason again why we proudly write Gurjar or Veer gujar on the rear screen of our cars (or Even Buses and Trucks).
Do u think any caste which separated from the main caste as a branch can go to this extent to love its name. IS IT LOGICAL???
Plese RE-CONSIDER
