Gurjars want youths to marry Pak Hindu girls
The Gurjar community in Saharanpur district has called upon its youths to marry Hindu girls from Pakistan in order to “save them” from alleged abduction and conversion in Pakistan.
Local BJP leader Vashisht Gurjar, who is spearheading the campaign, has been assured of support from local BJP MP Raghav Lakhanpal for organising such events.
A delegation of local Gurjar leaders will visit the refugee camps of Pakistani Hindus in Delhi on Wednesday with their proposal. Gurjars have also offered free land and houses to the Pakistani Hindus living in such camps.
“We have read about the pathetic condition of Pakistani Hindu girls in newspapers. They are abducted, raped and married to Muslims and converted to Islam. We have appealed to our youths and they are ready to marry them,” Vashisht Gurjar told The Indian Express.
Vashisht had also approached Saharanpur MP Raghav Lakhanpal for help. When contacted, Lakhanpal said: “Why not? I will surely help them. Pakistani Hindus have been displaced from their homeland. They have gone through a rough time. Their daughters were abducted and raped. They are living in refugee camps in Delhi.”
“If anyone is coming forward to marry their daughters, I will extend all possible help in organising the same and even facilitate the paper work required for it… When Indian Muslims can marry Pakistani Muslims, why can’t marriage take place between the Hindus of two countries?” Raghav asked.
Gurjars have held several meetings in Miragpur village, which has a population of nearly 10,000 with most hailing from the community. Several youths have reportedly come forward to marry Pakistani Hindu girls. “We have published their statements in the local media along with their parents’ consent. We are getting good response… many Gurjar families are contacting me for marrying their sons with Pakistani Hindu girls to save their honour,” said Vashisht.
Going a step ahead, villagers of nearby Chandana Keli have reportedly announced that land will be donated to Pakistani Hindus — who are staying in refugee camps — if they want to settle in their village. “I have written consent for donation of 20 bigha land. We will even help in constructing their houses,” said Vashisht. Locals claimed that some seers from Haridwar had visited the village nearly 25 days ago and floated this idea.
Members of the Gurjar community will meet the local SDM on Tuesday and submit a memorandum requesting it to be forwarded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On Wednesday, the community will also send a delegation to meet Pakistani Hindus living in Delhi with the marriage proposal.
“We will approach these families with the proposal and even request the Ministry of External Affairs to make arrangements for willing Pakistani Hindu families to visit India for the wedding of their girls,” said Vashisht.
Earlier associated with Bajrang Dal in 2005, Vashisht had joined BJP in 2009. He has several criminal cases, including rioting, pending against him. “There are nearly a dozen cases against me. There were sporadic riots in our area before the Muzaffarnagar violence. These cases were registered then against me. I used to address meetings and even BJP MLA Sangeet Singh Som used to attend the same,” Vashisht claimed.
Meanwhile, Manveer Pundeer — district BJP president of Saharanpur — claimed that he was not aware of any such call given by the Gurjar community.
