" Forgive me for a late reply. I thought I had kind of expressed my views in another thread at the time of your posting. Anyway, here are my comments: I appreciate the goodwill that you have expressed. I agree that no matter what the Governments do, common folks can get along with each other. This is especially true for Gujjars. They are a caring and loving people. If travel restrictions were somewhat eased, there could have been a lot of contact between Gujjar folks in Pakistan and India. Gujjarism is kind of evolving into a new phase. Old, easy and layback life is giving way to today's busy and demanding world. Even then, Gujjars try to stay in touch. Electoral seasons are especially ripe for such activities. Gujjar associations also prop up every now and then and hold meetings but they are kind of off and on thing. From this forum, I get the impression that Caste or Tribalism is pretty strong in India. It may not be as strong in Pakistan. Gujjars generally marry among Gujjars but there are no real restrictions other than the conformity with Islamic laws. ( We have never heard of Gotra restrictions. Mother generally wins in getting her sons married in her Gotra.) It is just a matter of mutual compatibility. Marriages with other tribes, although not a huge precentage, are becoming quite a norm, especially in educated and business circles. Politics is one place where tribalism is called upon the most but there too, there are no hard and fast rules. It is again a matter of shared interests. Strictly speaking, tribalism is considered un-Islamic and unpatriotic. It is therefore exploited in a kind of hush hush manner by politicians but it does play some role. Thanks to internet and this forum that I have got to know about vast population of Gujjars in India. Before that, I had just a sketchy idea that there may be some Gujjars out there. Although millions of Muslims from present day India moved to Pakistan in 1947, I have met only Punjabi and Kashmiri Gujjars among them. I have never come across Gujjars form Delhi, UP or other states. One possible reason is that they migh have adopted Arab surnames like, Rizvi, Farouqi, Siddiqui etc when they converted to Islam. One of my nephews toured India in a group as a High School student in early 2007 in a student exchange program. They went to Deradun and possibly Delhi. If I knew about Gujjars at that time as I know now, I would have certainly tried to have him meet some Gujjars there. Gujjars have a great goodwill among themselves. They will definitely find each other. I am sure there will be a better tomorrow!

Hiii gorsi bhai, thanks for ur reply.well said by you gurjars still try to stay in touch.itz one of the best features of gujjar community.and in fact its nt tribalism or castism as u said itz just love of gujjars for gujjars..as they share same culture from kashmir to gujrat(may b slightly diffrent bcoz of regions).india me kahawat h do gujjar mil jae to wo rishtedari jrur nikal lete h and ek aur bat gujjar apni mehman nawaji k lie b sbse jyada famous h, presently scenario is changed but even now if an aged gujjar goes to some relative's home , he will hv to stay at least 3 days and he is welcomed by whole village warmly..so its a part of our traditions.gorsi bhai the jats and rajputs at their forums giving examples of our unity and secularism during rajasthan matter, as we got united no matter hindu gujjar or muslim gujjar.there is a wide gap btw hindu jats and muslim jats. I believe gujjars can play an important role in india and pakistan relations we must take iniciative..kash ye partition na hua hota to aaj ka scenario diffrent hi hota at least in united punjab hum strongest hote.but stil v can do much if india pakistan relations get better.wel gorsi bhai i want to know abt gujjar badshah (tariq ch) does he comes on dis forum nw..i want to contact him.thanks
